Cross country 2014

Jealousy stalking the other house students, I could see that they had trained harder than me. Most of the students had brought matching clothes for their house colours: Takitimu (yellow), Te Arawa (red), Matatua (green), and Tainui (blue).

Last week everyone at Pt England school attended the annual cross country event.

The sun shone at its best and grew hotter every minute. The year 8 boys lined up on the line waiting for Mr Burt to start the race. *CLAP*!!
We all accelerated until the first 20 metres went by.

Many have trained and others should have trained because cross country was not easy to overcome. Many grew fatigued, as if they were about to faint and fall to the ground, but others kept their composure and ran for the finish line.

The obstacles ahead weren’t easy, especially the over grown grass just over the farm fence. The grass was hard to run in, and the fact that the grass was very muddy didn’t help.

As soon as most of us crossed the finish line breathless, we went straight for the water fountain to hydrate ourselves.

Some of us managed to take the top 3 spots, which means they get to go to the Interzone competition and race against fast students from other schools. Racing other schools will be much harder than our school cross country.

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi hendrix, an african american musician from Seattle, Washington. Jimi Hendrix is the number one greatest guitarist. Although Jimi hendrix’s career was short, he has given a great influence to many other guitarist.

Hendrix started his life as a guitarist at the age of 15. He was also enlisted for the US army in 1961. Then got an honorable discharge.
He moved to Tennessee in Clarksville.

Hendrix was inspired by electric blues and rock and roll. Hendrix’s ancestry included 3 different colches, Cherokee, Irish and African American.

He began his gigs at Chitlin’ Circuit. Hendrix struggled to get a living wage, and this is when Hendrix formed a band. He met a guitarist/bassist named Noel Redding in London.

Soon after, a drummer named Mitch Mitchell joined Hendrix’s band. They named their band The Experience. Jimi Hendrix’s was very energetic during his gigs and performed extremely insane.

Hendrix then died at the age of 27 in 1970. Hendrix was unconscious during his sleep. His death was caused by a mixture of alcohol and sleeping pills

Plastic bag ban

Dear Prime Minister

My letter to you is based on the impact of the damage and pollution plastic materials have caused. Plastics have caused disturbing destruction not only to the sea but to animals and other living things.
Over a million sea birds and marine mammals suffocate and die from plastic material. In any moment, many species will be close to extinction. Sea birds and marine mammals mistake the plastic material for prey or food.

Plastic pollution could be worse than climate change. 86% of ocean debris is caused by plastic pollution and many beaches are infested with plastic material.

Plastic does not sink, it floats on the seas surface. The plastic comes from many food sources so it attracts many sea life and sea birds.

Plastic will not be easy to digest. It could take hundreds of years to break down. It’s not safe to leave children around plastic material. Children could accidentally eat it or have a plastic bag on top of their head. Either way, it won’t end well for children.

My main point is that we should ban plastic bags forever and start using cloth bags. We should also try to clean up the pollution the sea has suffered from the plastic material.

Your sincerely. Neo
