Cross country 2014

Jealousy stalking the other house students, I could see that they had trained harder than me. Most of the students had brought matching clothes for their house colours: Takitimu (yellow), Te Arawa (red), Matatua (green), and Tainui (blue).

Last week everyone at Pt England school attended the annual cross country event.

The sun shone at its best and grew hotter every minute. The year 8 boys lined up on the line waiting for Mr Burt to start the race. *CLAP*!!
We all accelerated until the first 20 metres went by.

Many have trained and others should have trained because cross country was not easy to overcome. Many grew fatigued, as if they were about to faint and fall to the ground, but others kept their composure and ran for the finish line.

The obstacles ahead weren’t easy, especially the over grown grass just over the farm fence. The grass was hard to run in, and the fact that the grass was very muddy didn’t help.

As soon as most of us crossed the finish line breathless, we went straight for the water fountain to hydrate ourselves.

Some of us managed to take the top 3 spots, which means they get to go to the Interzone competition and race against fast students from other schools. Racing other schools will be much harder than our school cross country.
